When you think of horror genre television shows that really knock the ball out of the park, The Walking Dead can’t help but come to mind and it’s not hard to see why. Riveting storylines, fantastic special effects, chillingly gruesome make-up, and well-developed characters make this show a real winner.
In other words, it’s not just good for a zombie show or a horror show. It’s just good television period, which explains the immense following Dead has built for itself over the course of its four seasons. However, although it has received a couple of nods in regards to make-up and special effects, the show has found earning big wins on high-profile award shows to be something of a challenge so far.
That’s where the People’s Choice Awards come in. Unlike many other awards, People’s Choice Awards are actually chosen by the fans themselves and this year, The Walking Dead is up for recognition in four different categories.
- Favorite Cable Television Drama: Up against Pretty Little Liars, Sons of Anarchy, White Collar, and Downton Abbey.
- Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show: Up against The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Beauty and the Beast, and Once Upon a Time.
- Favorite TV Anti-Hero: (Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes) Up against Dexter Morgan of Dexter, Jamie Lannister of Game of Thrones, Norman Bates of Bates Motel, and Walter White of Breaking Bad.
- Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor: Andrew Lincoln Up against Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), Stephen Amell (Arrow), and Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries).
The nominees were announced November 5th and voting officially concluded earlier in the month on December 5th. We’ll have to tune in and watch the actual ceremony to find out if the growing army of “deadheads” out there will truly be getting what they wanted for Christmas this year, but the odds certainly look excellent in regards to Dead possibly taking home a win or two. For instance, according to Sports Betting Dime, The Walking Dead is one of the favorites to take home “Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show”.
You can catch the People’s Choice Awards on CBS on January 8th, 2014 at 9PM EST. Our fingers are certainly crossed for this fantastic show and the amazing people that make it all possible. The Walking Dead itself will be picking back up where it left off after December’s mid-season finale in February.
