The Wound PosterBy Jonathan Weichsel, MoreHorror.com

I first saw The Wound at Hollyshorts earlier this year when it played as part of the horror block.

When I reviewed the short for Film Radar at the time I was impressed with the film’s surrealism, as well as its unconventional drama.

Not only was "The Wound" my favorite film that evening, but it is also one of the best horror films I have seen all year, expertly combining humor, terror, and a real sense of the strange to create an experience that is both engrossing as well as totally gross.

The Wound has gone on to become one of the most lauded short horror films of the year. It had its world premier at Cinequest, and recently won best short at the Rhode Island International Horror Festival. Both are Oscar qualifying events. Other large festivals

The Wound has played at include Telluride Horror Show, Dark Carnival Film Fest, NBCUniversal Short Cuts, and others.

My aim here is not to review the film again. It is to give you the opportunity to click on the following link and watch it.

It is not often that a short film of this stature is released free to watch online, but that is exactly what the creators of The Wound have done. So click the link, watch the film, and see what an Oscar qualifying horror short looks like.

From The Press Release
Garrett spent two years recovering from the hernia and subsequent procedures, at one time isolated for weeks in a hospital room with a nasty infection. It was during this time that he wrote The Wound. The 18-minute short premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California on March 1, 2013 in the Mind Benders category and was so popular with audiences that it garnered an encore screening.

The Wound tells the story of a woman (Arianna Ortiz, a native Texan) who tries to recuperate from abdominal surgery at an idyllic seaside home. One morning her surgical-wound comes to life and let’s just say, it doesn’t behave.

The Wound is directed by David Garrett and stars Arianna Ortiz. Watch it here or watch it below.
